How Bella Met Thor

That's what "Snow White and the Huntsman"

should have been called, because that's what it felt like.

 

I watched it for the first time yesterday,

and while I didn't hate it... I didn't love it either.

One of those "it's worth watching once, but why in the

heck did I buy the stinkin' dvd!?" movies.

 

I confess, I watched it for Chris Hemsworth.

Hemsworth stands for
Him's-worthy-of-drooling!!!

I usually don't like the obviously hot actors... you know,

the kind with big muscles and a gorgeous face,

but I have a crush on this one. Can't help it.

 

Anyway, I have to say

that I'm a fan of the Twilight books.

(Except maybe the last part of Breaking Dawn

but that's a venting session for another post.)

I have a love/hate relationship with the movies.

They annoy the crap out of me, yet I enjoy

watching them.  Can't explain it.

 

I feel the same way about Kristen Stewart.

I like her as Bella (since I can't picture any other

actress in that part now) yet she bugs me.

 

I decided to watch "Snow Gripe and the Hot Huntsman"

with an open mind, not really thinking I'd be reminded

of the Twilight series... but there were several
moments that caught my attention.

*Spoiler Warning!*

 

First, there was the cliff jumping scene

 which reminded me of "New Moon."

 

Then there was a moment in the forest

that also reminded me of "New Moon."

 

You can't forget a good ol' love triangle!

Kristen must demand this in her contracts now.
"Ms. Steward must have AT LEAST two handsome
men fawning over her at the same time...
plus millions of dollars. Thanks."

There's the everyone-thinks-I'm-
dead-but-yay!-not-really thing too

 like in "Breaking Dawn." But a lot less gross.

 

I can't be the only one who noticed

these similarities while watching it right!?

 

I have to give points to K-Stew

for rolling around in so much mud and gunk, though.

Seriously, it's like the writer thought,

"I'm going to create a movie where everyone is

covered in filth the ENTIRE time!!!"

 

Except the final scene-

where everyone was cleaned up nicely, at last.

 

I have to give cred to

Chrissy-Poo, of course, for

providing the eye candy.

The costume/make-up people thought,

"Take the blonde out of his hair and nobody will

even think of Thor!"  Um. Nice try.

  

The person who REALLY steals the show, however,
is Charlize Theron as the wicked queen.

She's fierce, she's scary, and
she has an awesome wardrobe!

 

Oh, and this guy gets the
"worst haircut in the movie" award.
Congratulations creepy brother guy!

Despite all my nit-picking,
do I recommend this movie?
Yes.

As I said, it's worth seeing
at least once.

One more thing to add to this topic:
the end of the movie leaves it open to sequels.
I read in THIS article that because of the whole
Kristen Stewart + Director love affair dealy-o,
Universal Studios won't be "inviting"
her back to reprise the role.

I thought,
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

I may not be a huge fan of Kristen,
nor to I condone her smooching a married guy,
but why don't they kick that director to the curb instead!?
She is probably way more valuable to the franchise than him!
I hate it when actors/actresses are replaced in sequels and
it's pretty common to have different directors
for each movie in a franchise.

Then I read at the end of that same article
that Universal is having second thoughts and
supposedly never shunned Kristen.
Smart move, Universal.

Lip Sync Laughs

Just call me Sherlock.

Today I was driving along with the radio blasting,

when "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" by Train started playing.

 

The Mexican guitar and trumpets immediately

caught my attention, but it was the melody of the verses

that REALLY had me fixated.

 

"I know this song!"
I thought to myself.

 

Then I realized, it was a remix of
"Phantom of the Opera." The verses sound the same.

I know this because Phantom in all its forms has been
one of my obsessions over the years.

When I googled the two songs together

and realized that tons of other people thought the

same thing, I was glad it wasn't just in my

head, but sort of bummed that I wasn't

a lone genius either.

 

BUT THEN,

I noticed something others may not have caught...

 

The lead singer of Train, Pat Monahan:

 

looks sort of similar to Ramin Karimloo:

who is THE Phantom of the Opera on stage.

Seriously.  Just look at him, let alone listen to him sing!!! *swoon*

 

So anyway-

MYSTERY SOLVED.

 

Pat, the Train guy, wants Ramin's old job.

"50 Ways to Say Goodbye" is actually an audition.

 

While I enjoy hearing it on the radio almost as much as

seeing that Mariachi Guy's hair in their music video,

Rock it, hombre!

there is only ONE Phantom in my book,

and that's Mr Karimloo.  (No offense, Pat.)

Just kiss him already, Christine!!!

I watched Sherlock  Season 2 yesterday.

Awesome Alfie

One of my favorite discoveries from last year~

The talented Alfie Boe.

This man can SING...
as in SAAAANG!!!

At first glimpse, this fellow may look like

a thinner version of Al Borlan from "Home Improvement,"

but this man is SO MUCH MORE!

I shall enlighten those of you who have not yet

been introduced to the wonder of The Alfie.

First of all, his last name is pronounced "bow," like the thing you
put on gifts... not Bowie, like the rocker-with-crazy-eyes.

(Had to make this clear, since I called him "Alfie Bowie" for a bit.)

You can see Alfie hanging out with

his hilarious and charming buddy, Matt Lucas,

performing kitchen concerts together on YouTube.

Early in 2011, I discovered

Alfie (and Matt- the guy in the blue jacket)

when I was flipping through  the channels, and saw

"Les Miserables 25th Anniversary" on PBS. 

I began watching, and BOOM... instant Alfie Boe fan! 

(Seriously- watch that production and tell me you aren't impressed.) 

He was amazing as Jean Val Jean... the voice, the passion...

amazing!  I have rewatched it many times since.

HERE is one of my favorite numbers.

Besides being freakishly talented,
Alfie seems like the nicest guy.  He's always
smiling in interviews/videos. (Like THIS one.)

As if I didn't love this guy enough,
he married this pretty lady, Sarah, who is
from Utah, my home state!!!

Good pick, Alfie. :)

Maybe this means I can stalk him
see him sing live some time in the future,
when they're spending time in the states.
*crossing fingers*

Alfie recently performed at
Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee
and kicked ARSE, in my unbiased opinion. :)
